Summary of Jane Eyre

This book seems more like a diary to me then an actually novel. Jane Eyre begins the story by telling us of her early childhood. During this time she is staying with a horrible Aunt and her cousins. Her parents had died when she was very young. After this her Uncle took her in, but he has passed away a couple of years before the beginning of the book. Jane goes through abuse and neglect while living at Gateshead Manor. When she is around 10 her Aunt sends her to Lowood Institution. This school is a horrible place where the girls are not feed or clothed properly. In the beginning of her stay here she is portrayed by the headmaster as a lier. This is later cleared up and she accomplishes many things while finishing her schooling. After spending 6 years in school at Lowood, she graduates and continues her stay there as a teacher. After 2 years of teaching she decides that she is in need of some freedom and has a sudden urge to get away from the place that has been so awful to her. She posts an add in the paper looking for a job as a governess. A Mrs. Fairfax sends her a letter saying that there is a position open for her at the Thornfield estate. Jane quickly leaves Lowood and starts a new chapter of her life. While at Thornfield, she is in charge of a young girl named Adele. She is supposed to teach her and bring her up as a proper young lady. While in the process of doing this, Jane meets a Mr. Rochester who is the master of the house. She finds herself falling in love with this man, and he later asks her to marry him. The night before the wedding, Jane is having second thoughts. She is also thinking about the strange things that keep happening at the estate. Things such as wicked laughter coming from hallways where no one is, a sudden fire, and a savage looking woman sneaking into Jane's room to tear up her wedding vail. On the day of the wedding, a man objects to Jane and Rochester's marriage, clamming that Rochester is already married.

So sorry reader, but this is all of the information you are going to get out of me. I wouldn't want to spoil the ending for anyone.
